Girls hoops: EGHS wins, Lady Cats split

East Gadsden wins two district contests

The East Gadsden Lady Jags won two games against two Panama City Beach district opponents last week.

Early in the win the team picked up their second district win and their third overall win with a close 59-56 win over Panama City Bay. Down 46-43 entering the fourth quarter, the team outscored Bay 16-10 in the final quarter for the key district win.

Jasmine Grice and Chalandra Brown led the way offensively, with Grice finishing with 23 and Brown 16 points.

Second on the list was a 37 point blasting of Arnold High School. The Jags took advantage of a big second half and coasted to a 75-56 win.

Eleven players contributed to the team effort win with Jasmine Grice and Chalandra Brown again leading the way. Grice hit three 3-pointers to finish with 22 points and Brown scored 17 points.

Also contributing to the cause was Daphne McLaurin with 10 points. Topping the boards were McLaurin and Anecia Pillars with eight rebounds each. Terrica Frost dished out eight assists as the team moved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in district play.

Munroe Lady Cats split district games

The Lady Cats picked up one district win but dropped another last week.

Tuesday night the team disposed of John Paul II 53-25. The Lady Cats jumped out to a 19-5 first quarter lead and led 26-10 at the half.

Freshman Beth Summerford finished with a double double scoring 10 points and bringing down 11 rebounds. Courtney Mayo helped out on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Carrie Scott dished out six assists and Kristen Allen had six steals.

Friday night the Lady Cats did not find the scoring as easy as they dropped a key district game to Aucilla in Monticello. Aucilla held the team to eleven first half points and led 18-11 after the second quarter. Final score was 39-18. No Lady Cat reached double figures, but Kristen Allen and Anna Dooner did combine for 13 of the 18 points the team eked out.

Their overall record dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in district play.

West Gadsden blasts Liberty County

The Lady Panthers turned a 20-8 halftime lead 50-23 district win over Liberty County. Kendra Crittenden scored 20 points and Kayla Streeter added 17 points.

Kendricka Streeter had a big night on the boards as she pulled down 14 rebounds and Streeter added 11.

Crittenden and Streeter also combined for seven steals.

The win moved West Gadsden to 4-3 overall on the season.
