Girls hoops action sees wins, losses

The East Gadsden High School girls basketball team scored 31 first half points en route to a 46-31 district defeat of Madison County. 

LaBrittany McDonald led the Jaguars in scoring with 14 points.  T’Erica Frost and Ashley Blair each added 10 points. The team played in the Florida Georgia Shootout over the weekend and lost to Thomasville High School 69-35.

The Robert F. Munroe Lady Cats dropped their third game of the season to Grace Christian despite leading 17-13 after the first quarter. 

Foul trouble began to plaque the team in the second quarter and when playmaker Kristen Allen had to sit for much of the second quarter with three fouls, the Grace Cougars surged ahead to take a 30-28 halftime lead. 

Beth Summerford led the Cats in scoring with 18 points.  She also added nine rebounds. Allen added 13 points and dished out seven assists. Courtney Mayo had a fine all around game with nine points, 10 rebounds and five steals.  The loss dropped the team to 1-3 on the season.

In action this week, the Munroe Lady Cats travel to FAMU on Tuesday, host Liberty County on Thursday and hit the road again on Friday when they take on Aucilla Christian.  East Gadsden hosts Godby on Wednesday and travels to West Gadsden for in a cross-county contest on Friday.   West Gadsden will host North Florida Christian on Thursday.
