GCSO fires veteran employee

A former Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office captain has been fired.

GCSO Maj. Shawn Wood said Jim Corder’s career in local law enforcement spanned about 26 years, including nearly 20 years with GCSO and before that, Quincy Police Department.

Two investigators remain on paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement continues its investigation into criminal allegations of official misconduct.

Wood said the allegations included accusations that Corder had sent inappropriate text messages to a woman, and this was verified by several texts sent at all hours.

He said the sheriff’s office investigation into Corder’s actions ended when he was fired.

The two investigators on leave are Robbie Maxwell and Kevin Godwin. Wood said they are on leave as FDLE continues its investigative inquiry, but it has not been shown that either investigator has done anything wrong.

An FDLE spokesman said he could not comment on an ongoing 


Wood said it is important for members of the community to know, “We’re going to police the police. We’re going to look into the complaint. We’re going to deal with it.”
