Gadsden Arts Center

Creative Arts Camp

13 N. Madison St. in Quincy

The GAC hosts a creative and fun camp this summer for children ages 6 to 12. Under the guidance of experienced teacher and artist Nancy Van Landingham, the children will explore multiple art mediums each week including drawing, painting, collage and sculpture or clay, while learning about art,  famous artists, and world cultures.

Included in the curriculum are painting mixed-media portraits of Nefertiti, Cleopatra or King Tut, drawing and painting live flowers, making styrofoam prints of Mt. Fuji, building sculptures inspired by E.L. Samuels’ horse sculptures, creating a color theory book and making France-inspired 4th of July paintings with the Eiffel Tower and fireworks.

Camps are one week long each and run from May 31 through June 25. Camp is Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon. Tuition is $75 per week with a 10 percent sibling or 3-plus week discount. Registration ends May 28, after which there is a $10 late registration fee. Tuition scholarships are available, please call to inquire.

A full-day cultural camp is available by combining GAC Art Camp with the Quincy Music Theater summer workshop. Theater camp is $125 for a 3-week session, June 7 through 25 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Call 875-9444 to register for the QMT Summer workshop. The GAC will provide supervised lunch hour from 12-1 for students enrolled in both camps, and walk students to the theater.

For older students, ages 13 to 18, there are teen aide positions available for both camps. This is a great opportunity for students to earn their Bright Futures community service hours, please call for more information.

For more information or to register for art camp call 875-4866 or e-mail grace@gadsdenarts.org or stop by the Gadsden Arts Center.
