A Gadsden County jury took about 30 minutes to return a verdict of not guilty Feb. 16 in the sexual misconduct trial of Corrections Officer Deric Mordica.
Mordica, who was employed at the Gadsden County Jail in March 2012, was accused by a female inmate of engaging in a sexual relationship with her. According to testimony, the alleged victim was booked into the county jail March 2, 2012, and said “somebody is going down for this.” Eight days later, the woman accused Mordica had unprotected sex with her at the jail and promised to pay her bond, which he never paid.
