Event designed to help residents save money

Want to get information that will help you with your financial problems? Come to AmericaSAVES/GadsdenSAVES Countywide Financial Conference Feb 26 at the University of Florida Research Center from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Program speakers will cover such topics as, "What To Do If You Cannot Pay Your Utilities Bills," "Where To Go To Find Training To Help You Learn A Trade Or Seek Work" and "Learning How to Save for Emergencies."

There will be resources to provide information about where to go if you need food for your family, where to go if you need medical assistance with your prescriptions and how to get to the place where you can apply for work.

If you've lost your job, are having problems paying your mortgage or need vocational, trade, computer or GED training or classes, the event will feature information on those topics as well. The event is free.

Senior citizens and students from Gadsden County's high schools will be in attendance. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.

There will be drawings for prizes, and free spiral manuals will be provided to help you learn how to save money and protect your assets using Freddie Mac's CREDIT SMART Financial Literacy Program and from National Credit Union Financial Education Program to help you learn how to:"Build WEALTH, Not DEBT !"

To find the University of Florida Research Center:

Take State Road 267 from U.S. 90 in Quincy and drive almost to I-10. On the right is a road sign that says "University of Florida Research Center." If you are coming from Tallahassee, take I-10 from U.S. 90 and drive to Pat Thomas Parkway (State Rd 270) and 55 Research Road is very close to I-10 (less than a mile). Go to the Fount May Building. Coming from Havana drive on State Road 12 (Havana Highway), go to U.S. 90 and drive to Pat Thomas Parkway (Gadsden 267),(CVS & Altell shops are on the right, Walgreen's on the left), turn left and go almost to 1-10 and UF Research Center is there on your right). Go to Fount May Building.(Parking will be on the left and it is OK to park on the grass if the actual parking lot is full.)
