East Gadsden High School’s softball team lost to a very strong Madison County team in five innings 18-0.
Madison pounded out 15 hits against pitcher Alexia Charlton. Charlton struck out three and walked six. Davia Nelson and Jazz Francis each had one hit as the team dropped to 3-14 on the season.
Robert F. Munroe’s team dropped three games against three top softball opponents last week. The team played well in all three games but seemed doomed to play one bad inning that took away the team’s chances for a win.
On Monday, the team played Chiles High School in Tallahassee. Munroe held tight to a 6-3 deficit behind the hitting and pitching of freshman Haleigh Corbally.
Chiles exploded in the bottom of the fifth for seven runs, ending the game at 13-3. Corbally struck out four and walked three. She also was 2-for-2 with two doubles.
On Wednesday, the team lost to Leon in the same fashion. After trailing by only one to two runs for most of the game, the team gave up six runs in the last two innings to lose 9-2.
Mary Jane Milam got the loss from the mound. Spenser Morris, Kristen Allen and Corbally each had a hit in the loss.
Coach Mark Allen’s goal was to be play much higher classification schools Leon and Chiles earlier in the week to prepare for Aucilla on Thursday. The plan did not work. Aucilla won 11-6 and took the regular season district title.
Corbally got the loss from the mound but was 2-for-4 from the plate with a double and three RBIs. Allen had two hits and Morris and Georgie Branaman each had one hit.
The team finished the week at 10-9 while Aucilla moved to 14-6.
