TDS presents the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce’s 2009 Bass Fishing Tournament Oct. 17 at Lake Talquin. Hundreds of fishing fans and their families are expected to take part in the tournament that helps raise funds for the GadsdenLEARN scholarship program available through Tallahassee Community College.

The tournament is expected to draw in some of the best bass fishing enthusiasts in the region. In its third year, this bass fishing tournament should have well over 60 teams since the tournament date has avoided conflicts with other area fishing tournaments and local major college football matches.

Entry fees are $125 per boat with a two-person maximum. Ten places are guaranteed prizes: first place receives $2,500, second place receives $1,000 and third place is awarded $750. Door prizes, donated from local merchants, will be available to tournament participants as well as spectators through ticket drawings. Teams check in at Whippoorwill Landing at 5 a.m., and the weigh-in is at 3 p.m. at Ingram’s Marina.

“The tournament is an exciting event for families and friends to fish with or against each, and also serves as a major fundraiser for GadsdenLEARN,” said Michelle Burdick, chamber vice president of membership. “We’re pleased to be working again with TDS to provide a local event for residents to participate in as well as help raise money for scholarships.”

In 2008, the chamber raised $2,500 for GadsdenLEARN and this year hopes community will show their support by registering a team to fish. Several affordable sponsorship opportunities are available for any business interested in promoting their products and services.

The chamber would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to its title sponsor, TDS and the tournament hosts located at Lake Talquin: Whippoorwill Sportsman's Lodge and Ingram's Marina. Appreciation is also extended to Shopper Express Printing & Copy, Boone Signs Inc. and Wal-Mart.

GadsdenLEARN assists the county school system in the education of students and makes post high school education available to all Gadsden County residents. This program made its mark by providing funds to Gadsden County residents for college scholarships, vocational scholarships, testing fees, remedial work, tutorial assistance, adult education and recognition and motivational programs for students and teachers.
