The Robert F. Munroe Day School Bobcats gave it their all, but a pair of errors and lack of a key hit kept the team from advancing in FHSAA baseball play as they lost 3-1 to Eagle's View in a Region 1-A playoff game in Jacksonville last Tuesday.
Senior right-hander Cody Watson pitched a gusty game for Munroe allowing only two hits and no earned runs. A first inning fielding error and a third inning throwing error allowed Eagle's View to score their runs and end the Bobcat baseball season at 20-6.
"I was proud of the way we played the game," head coach Mike Troblstrup said. "Cody threw a great game and but for a few plays we might be going on in the playoffs."
Munroe had trouble with Eagle's View junior Zack Houck early. The lefty struck out six of the first 11 outs he got before Clay Kramm hammered a long fourth inning home run against him.
Aaron Iglesias and Watson then drew walks before Houck escaped that jam. Trailing just 3-1 in the sixth the Bobcats Brock Hinson led the inning off with a double. After one out Iglesias was hit with a pitch. Eagle's View then brought in reliever Austin Calcote who threw a double-play ball to end the threat.
In the seventh, Miller Joyner drew a one-out walk and Eagle's View again went to the bullpen. Righty Kyle Green got the next two Bobcats out to advance Eagle's View on in the playoffs.
Munroe will only lose seniors Watson and Sam Young off this team.
"If we'll work this summer and come back ready next spring, this team could have another great year." Said Troblstrup.
Eagle's View defeated Aucilla 12-0 Friday and will meet Malone in a best two of three series this weekend with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
