Bobcats fell Oak Hall 52-13

The Robert F. Munroe Bobcats returned to the winner’s circle with a 52-13 dismantling of the visiting Eagles of Oak Hall. The Bobcats rushed for 527 yards and the defense stymied the Eagles’ ground attack while forcing three turnovers. The Bobcats also had three players rush for over 100 yards.

Leading the way for Munroe was senior fullback Myles Edwards, who totaled 257 yards and scored five touchdowns. Fellow senior Jaylen Lewis rushed for 105 yards and a score while junior Bo Bailey had 173 yards and also scored a touchdown.

“I can’t say enough about these kids and how they responded this week,” said Interim Coach Joey Edwards. “We asked them to change the offense and they took the challenge. We were most worried about the offensive line, but they did a great job of opening holes and carried out their assignments. They made this thing work. We’ve still got some things to work on and install, but we’re happy with what they were able to do in a week’s time.”

The Bobcat defense was another highlight. After consecutive weeks of leading comfortably at halftime and then surrendering the leads late, the Bobcats kept their foot on the pedal and put the Eagles to rest. Led by linebackers Max Baroody (four solo tackles, six assists and one sack) and Myles Edwards (four solo tackles, four assists and one pass breakup), the Bobcats held Oak Hall to less than 100 yards each in rushing and passing. The stingy defense also registered three takeaways.

Cornerbacks Jaylen Lewis and Cole Skipper each had an interception, with Lewis returning his 70 yards for a touchdown, and linebacker Daniel Winburn recovered a fumble.

“We really swarmed to the ball,” said Edwards. “The defensive line also looked pretty good and played good assignment football. We had a couple of miscues, but that’s to be expected. We’ll continue to work on our tackling and alignments.”

The Bobcats travel to Destin on Friday to take on the Knights of Rocky Bayou, who stand at 3-3 on the season. The Knights are fresh off of a 62-6 shellacking of John Paul II this past Friday night and feature a potent offensive attack led by quarterback Tyler Paskell and running back Levi Derry. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. EST.
