Minnie Jewel Sanders Baker, 83, of Gretna, died Dec. 30 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee.

She was born November 18, 1925 in Troy, Ala. to the late Ella Flowers and Raymond Sanders. She attended the public schools of Troy and was member of Elam Baptist Church in Springhill, Ala. She moved to Florida over 54 years ago and she joined Pine Bloom MB Church, Greensboro, where she served as a member of the mother’s board and was a member of the Good Shepherd Lodge. She was employed until retirement by the Gadsden County School Board as a custodian.

She married the late Jeremiah Baker on Jan. 7, 1946 in Troy, and remained a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Pine Bloom MB Church, with burial in the community ccemetery in Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeremiah Baker, and children, Robert, Henry and Lizzie.

Survivors include her daughters, Bobbie Baker Thomas and Betty Baker of Gretna, Linda Baker Short of Midway and Patricia Baker of Columbus, Ohio; son, Ricky Baker (Shinita) of Quincy, Jerry Baker of Columbus, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Mattie Sanders of Enterprise, Ala., Lizzie Mae Baker of Troy, Ala. and Mattie Baker; friends, Leatrice Gause, Lucille Atkins, Melba Jenkins and Dorothy Johnson; along with 31 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
